Taxis in New South Wales will from this week be adorned with a new sticker in an effort to push back against foul play over fares.
State Transport Minister Jo Haylen confirmed to 2GB’s Ben Fordham that the first batch of stickers had been delivered to major taxi operators as of yesterday, and they would roll out across the state in the next couple of weeks.
The stickers – which must be displayed – tell customers the meter must “always be on during a rank or hail trip”.
Drivers who demand set fares before letting a passenger into the cab or commit other fare offences can be fined $1000.
